Steve Newbrough is a versatile solo guitarist and chamber musician. He has performed on stages across the United States and has appeared online, on television, and on radio broadcasts.
Whether collaborating with the internationally acclaimed Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, performing twentieth-century repertoire with a variety of ensembles, or working in collaborative chamber settings, his work is characterized by both technical mastery and artistic flexibility. As a member of the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, he appears on the ensemble’s 2013 recording Thrum on the Innova label. He also appears on Anthony Bernarducci’s choral album Something Beautiful Remains. His 2023 album, Transcendent Figures, features some of the most respected and enduring works in the classical guitar repertoire. He is currently a featured artist for XGuitars.com.
Newbrough's musical journey began under the guidance of Gordon Kreplin in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He later earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he studied with Joseph Pecoraro. In 2008, he earned a Master of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of Minnesota, studying under Jeffrey Van.
Currently, Mr. Newbrough serves on the faculty at Clemson University. He has also served on the faculty at Furman University and has taught at summer music programs including the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the New England Music Camp.
